The Global Business Journalism Program

One of the consequences of China's increasing power in the global economy is a soaring demand for trained journalists who can understand this exciting, complicated development, and explain it, in depth, to China and the world.

The Tsinghua Master of Arts degree in Global Business Journalism is designed to meet that growing need. The program offers international students the opportunity to master the fine points of business, finance and economics in China. All courses are taught in English, the international language of business, by respected scholars and journalists with extensive global experience. The facilities and equipment rival those of the world's other leading journalism programs.

Launched in 2007, the GBJ program is already recognized by students and recruiters alike as a world-class program. Only the most talented applicants from around the world are accepted, and the student body is culturally and professionally diverse. The program is full-time and spans two years of intense, fast-paced, rewarding study. Those who complete it successfully emerge with valuable connections, a rich array of opportunities and the skills to capitalize on them. The GBJ program is a two-year experience that will last a lifetime.

The program aims to bring business journalism in China in line with top international reporting standards. The Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication has a long history of cooperation with major international media and financial information organizations, such as Bloomberg, Reuters, BusinessWeek, New York Times, Financial Times, CNN and others. These partners have contributed talent, equipment and financial support, and several provide internships for our students.

For the GBJ program, Tsinghua has teamed up with the U.S.-based International Center for Journalists to offer an array of specialized courses that are on the forefront of global business journalism. Students can learn about international accounting standards, complex financial derivatives, journalistic ethics, advanced feature writing techniques and the management of media organizations in knowledge that is transferable to other economies and other professions.

The program benefits from its proximity to Tsinghua's prestigious School of Economics and Management, as well as to the many media and technology companies in Beijing. Internships, field trips and recruiter visits are integral parts of the program.

The goal is to create smart, sophisticated reporters, editors and public relations professionals who can enhance the understanding of economic and corporate developments in China and the world.
